Lynbrook Street House, Houston, Texas
Built as an infill project
in an established neighborhood, the house, the design utilizes a careful
attention to detail and a variety of materials to achieve a quiet elegance.
The design conceals the large size of the house (6300 square feet) on a
fairly tight lot allowing it to blend in well with its one story neighbors.
The house is organized
around a great room with a high beamed volume ceiling and oversized windows
and doors. A large stone fireplace surround dominates the room, completing
the feeling of the English Manor House. A front "parlor" conceals
a fully furnished home office. The rear of the house extends out to a courtyard,
providing views from each of the main rooms to the pool, spa and garden.
The garden side of the house was detailed as a series of separate forms,
giving the courtyard the feel of a Tudor street and lessening the impact
of a two story mass around the pool.
